Embracing the new, the risky and the independent from around the world, World Theatre Festival (WTF) 2011 is seriously shaking up the face of theatre in Brisbane until Sunday 20 February at Brisbane Powerhouse.

Made up of international and national performance, a ‘scratch’ series of brand new Australian works still in development, in addition to a series of master classes and forums, WTF 2011 is engaging on all levels, bringing theatre works, artists, speakers and participants from the UK, USA, Netherlands, New Zealand, Chile, Australia and Germany to Brisbane.

Brisbane Welcomes Back CityCats and Ferries - Brisbane City and Tourism News

Brisbane’s CityCats and CityFerries are back in business after hitting the water only a month since the floods and almost two months quicker than initially envisaged.

15 of the city’s 23 ferry terminals would reopened on Monday 14 February although several remain out of action after the network received about $70 million damage.

“Getting our CityCat and CityFerry network up and running again has been a massive task for those involved in the recovery process,” Lord Mayor Campbell Newman said.

“This is a major milestone in Brisbane’s flood recovery with two thirds of our terminals 100 per cent safe to operate from and our entire fleet ready to go after being evacuated to Manly Harbour and the Rivergate Marina Complex ahead of the floods.”

Cr Newman said Council had been working around the clock with TransdevTSL and Maritime Safety Queensland since floodwaters receded to provide commuters with an interim service as quickly as possible.

“After the floods I set officers the task of getting a basic service operating within 90 days but that is occurring after a little more than a month,” he said.

“I would like to thank commuters for their patience and look forward to seeing them taking advantage of a service which has become such an iconic part of Brisbane’s culture.”

Cr Newman said Council would continue to work to repair and restore the remaining terminals to ensure Brisbane had a full service up and running as quickly and safely as possible.

The CityCat and CityFerry network recovery included damage and safety assessments, the removal of mud and debris, a major salvage and retrieval operation, repairs to every terminal and significant electrical works.

CityCat services are on track to run approximately every 12 to 13 minutes for most of the day. Customers from downstream terminals will have services every six to seven minutes during the morning peak. Off-peak services will run every 25 minutes.

The University of Queensland, West End, Regatta, North Quay, QUT (Gardens Point), and Sydney Street CityCat terminals remain closed until further notice as does the Holman Street ferry terminal.

Cross-river services will operate between Bulimba and Teneriffe, Norman Park and New Farm Park and between Thornton Street and Eagle Street Pier about every 10 to 15 minutes.

A partial Inner City Service will operate between South Bank 3, Eagle Street Pier, Dockside and Mowbray Park every 30 minutes.
