Brisbane Comedy Festival 2011 - until 27 March

It’s that time again! It’s time to get ‘laugh fit’! Yes, that’s right, time to start getting your laughing gear into shape ready for Brisbane Comedy Festival 2011.

Start your laugh training now – you need to be ready to laugh long and hard at Brisbane Powerhouse from now until Sunday 27 March 2011.

It’s the 3rd annual Brisbane Comedy Festival and some of your favourite international and Australian comedians will be returning, along with some brand new funny faces for good measure to make an even more awesome and hilarious mix.

Topping the bill in 2011 are; the charming, yet razor-sharp Scottish sensation, Danny Bhoy along with Irish comedy wild-boy, Jason Byrne; Aussie favourite, Wil Anderson, everyone’s favourite Gen-Y, Josh Thomas, and the affable Peter Helliar. Australia’s adopted son, the unique and side-splittingly funny Arj Barker, joins the festival for the first time and back again, from the UK, are Stephen K Amos and Mark Watson.
Bolstering the comedy troops will be the hilarious Eddie Ifft, direct from the US; Hannah Gadsby, proving good stuff does come out of Tasmania; comedy stalwart, Denise Scott; that cool, calm, funny bugger, Tom Gleeson; the maestro of suburban absurdism, Sam Simmons; and the loveable Dave O’Neill.

An eclectic bunch of Aussie up-and-comers are bringing up the rear (so to speak) – Melinda Buttle, Josh Earl, Dave Thornton, Tom Ballard and Harley Breen are all Brisbane Comedy Festival ‘old hands’. The Heavy-metal-drummer turned stand-up-philosopher, Steve Hughes brings his unique brand of comedy to the festival for the first time, as does the brilliantly kooky Asher Treleaven, with his show Secret Door, which won the Brisbane Comedy Festival Award at the Melbourne Fringe Festival. Chopper (Heath Franklin) also puts in an appearance with Chopper’s F**kin Bingo for one hilarious night only.

And the list goes on…Sammy J, Dead Cat Bounce, George McEnroe, Damien Power, Geraldine Quinn, Matt Keneally. Stephen Sheehan and The Hermitude of Angus Ecstatic (another Brisbane Comedy Festival Award winner at MICF) are all joining the party. And, if you thought it couldn’t get any better…it can!! Bulmer’s Best of Edinburgh is back where you can see, you guessed it, the very best comedians from the Edinburgh Comedy Festival and the brisbanetimes.com.au Chalkboard also returns with a different surprise line-up every night.
